and this is Leslie
We’ve known each other for more than 20 years.
We’ve worked together and we’ve worked for each other,
We’ve covered each other’s butts more times that either of us can remember or would like to admit.
But mostly we’re friends
And here with the second half of our lives on the line, we want to choose how we do what ever we do.

So here’s what we have come to believe:

We’ve done a reasonably good job getting through the first half of our lives. We’ve been mostly successful at getting what we want. — We never wanted to be young forever. We don’t even want our children to be young forever. — We’ve happily raised those children to be independent and responsible. Leslie raised her son mostly as a single mom while working out side her home. Kerch and her husband of 30 years raised three kids working almost always from an office in her home.

How we’ve done what we’ve done has been the result of the choices we’ve made. And as long as we’ve got any control over what happens to us and around us, then we want to continue to make our own choices.

Each of us has an objective regarding this Year to Change that is about control.

Kerch wants control over her stuff and her time and her weight.

Leslie wants better health-heart habits.

Does that mean we were out of control before now? We think not. Our lives have had a certain kind of control, but it’s not always been conscious. We’ve slid into and out of better and worse places. But here, at 50, we want to consciously choose where we want to go.

We know that the second half of our lives, the next 40 or 50 years, won’t be as easy as the first. Our body parts are less dependable. Capacities – our own and those of the people on whom we depend — will change. We’ll bury more and more of our peers.

We believe that if life is a battle, or at least a Herculean struggle, we need to take the offensive without being offensive. We know in the next part of the life cycle some kind of discipline will be important. We have different ideas about what that actually means.

Leslie’s has great skill at making a plan and working it.

Kerch is more about the flow of it all.

That’s part of the dichotomy of what you’ll find in this project. We’ve often laughed over the years and through myriad of projects that we’ve shared a brain – not so much because we think alike, but because we have one to pass one back and forth between us. We hope someplace during this passing you’ll find something that will speak to you. We hope something will resonate and be useful because, above all, we want to be useful.

So we hope you’ll stay tuned, make a connection to us and to our progress.

Welcome to our year to change.
